Mr OKOKON EKANEM UDO

Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo born on 19th October 1964 hailed from Itak Ikot Obio Ise, Ini Local Government Area (LGA), Akwa Ibom State where he attended his primary school from 1971 - 1976. His Secondary education was at Odoro Ikono Secondary School, Mbiabong Ikot Udofia from 1978–1982. Between 1983–1987, he attended University of Calabar where he obtained B.Sc. (Honours) Economics. In 2010, he obtained Masters Business Administration (MBA - Financial Management) from National Open University of Nigeria.

He did his mandatory National Youth Service in 1987/1988 with the then Bauchi State Ministry of Education where he taught students of all levels at Government Secondary School Tula, Kaltungo LGA in the current Gombe State.  

Mr Udo was appointed to the Service as a Personnel Officer II with effect from 6th September 1989 and posted to the then Federal Ministry of Finance and Economic Development where he served for many years, not only as a Personnel Officer but also as a Finance Officer. His well over 31years experience in the Service has given him the privilege to work in other Ministries, which include Ministry of Defence; Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs; Ministry of Petroleum Resources; Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation; Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning (FMoFBNP) from where he was posted to this present Ministry.

Mr Udo’s tour of the Service has availed him the opportunities to take up some sensitive job profiles. He has served as Secretary and members of many Committees within the public service. He has handled a wide range of policy matters relating to Multilateral Development Institutions (African Development Group – ADB/ADF/NTF and African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim Bank)); National Economic Management Team (served as deputy coordinator of the Secretariat). He was also a member of National Microfinance Policy Consultative Committee (NMPFCC) domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria. He has served as a Procurement Officer for ADB Group Assisted Institutional Support Project and also as a National Co-ordinator of the World Bank Assisted States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Program for Results.

During his stay at Ministry of Defence he served as a member of the Secretariat of Air Force Council, while at Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs he handled matters on Local Government and Nigeria’s Relations with International Bodies on Local Government Affairs. He was posted on special request to serve as Deputy Director, Special Duties, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources where he was later selected to serve as Special Assistant (Technical) to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation. He became a Director ref 1/1/2017 and served in Home Finance Department of FMoFBNP. As Director Home Finance, he was a key member of both the Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme and Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme Committees. He served as the Secretary of Federation Account Allocation Committee, and also coordinated most of the States’ financial relations with the Federal Government. His position in the Ministry afforded him the opportunity to serve as Chairman, Governing Board of Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund Managed by the Central Bank of Nigeria. He also represented the Ministry on the Governing Boards of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, National Insurance Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria Export-Import Bank and Investment and Securities Tribunal. 

Mr Udo has received trainings in the areas of administration, management, public finance, procurement, project management, etc both within and outside the country which have greatly upgraded his knowledge, skills and attitude as a seasoned administrator. He has attended training at various institutions such as West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM); International Law Institute (ILI), Washington DC - USA; Crown Agent, Worthing - UK; INSEAD Business School, Fontainebleau – France; African Development Bank Training Institute; State Bank of Pakistan - Karachi; National Centre for Economic Management and Administration (NCEMA); Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) – Lagos; Centre for Management Development (CMD), etc. He has also attended several workshops, seminars and conferences within and outside Nigeria.

Mr Udo is currently serving as the Director, Human Resource Management in Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
