In a bid to enhance the development of official statistics in Nigeria and provide accurate data about the fastest growing sector of Nigeria's economy, (ICT Sector) Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) received in courtesy visit, a delegation from National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), led by the Statistician General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran.
Prince Adeniran while making his remarks at the Communications and Digital Economy Complex, Abuja hailed the consistent unprecedented contribution of the ICT sector to GDP in the last 3 years under the stewardship of Prof Pantami.
"While other sectors were sinking, the ICT sector has been growing over the last 3 years", the statistician general said. Adding that, "The ICT sector is the fastest growing sector of Nigeria's economy".
The statistician general also hailed Minister Pantami for being the first African to be conferred with the prestigious CIISEC Fellowship and identified 4 main areas of interest for the bureau, eCommerce, eLearning, eHealth and eLottery.
Responding, Prof. Pantami called on NBS to work toward the automation of its processes and improve in capturing data from the informal sector.
Pantami stated that NBS remains one of the most important institutions in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility of collating data and presenting the data for informed decision-making.
Minister Pantami attributed the successes of most tech giants to investments in research and data-driven decision-making.
